Pax Christi Foundation and HUT - Hëllef um Terrain: positive prospects for young people

The Pax Christi Foundation, under the aegis of the Fondation de Luxembourg, supports the community workshop project run by HUT – Hëllef um Terrain.

In some HUT – Hëllef um Terrain facilities, many young people find themselves without activities or prospects for the future. These may be young people who have dropped out of school, young people waiting to enter the workforce, or simply young people with nothing to do. In order to help them look positively towards the future, HUT – Hëllef um Terrain has set up community workshops, which aim to train them while meeting the needs of the community. The workshops can take various forms: painting premises, cleaning, maintaining green spaces, small DIY jobs, animation or catering, etc. Young people not only acquire professional skills, but also important values such as teamwork, taking responsibility, civic support, punctuality, and planning. At the same time, a small financial reward allows them to buy new clothes or go to the movies from time to time, just like any other young person.

This year, the community workshop project received financial support from the Pax Christi Foundation, under the aegis of the Fondation de Luxembourg. For years, the Pax Christi Foundation has been supporting activities that enable disoriented young people to make themselves useful to the community while receiving training. Training young people is one of their priorities. 150 young people are expected to participate in the community workshops this year.

For HUT - Hëllef um Terrain, the support of the Pax Christi Foundation is essential, as without this assistance it would be impossible to offer these workshops as they currently do. HUT – Hëllef um Terrain is very grateful to the Pax Christi Foundation.

Community workshops are held as soon as a need is identified in the field. Young people have recently been involved in organizing several receptions, including one for volunteers from HUT - Hëllef um Terrain and another for staff from other partner organizations. They also helped to organize, set up, and run workshops and stands at various local events in which HUT - Hëllef um Terrain structures participated. Another project involved designing and building benches and a garden table from wooden pallets to make the outdoor space of a residential facility more pleasant for its residents. Other projects are currently being defined, such as the maintenance of green spaces and laundry rooms, the refurbishment of activity rooms, and many others.
