The aim of this service is to help people living on the streets to realise the importance of taking care of their health and hygiene. A team of nurses travels the streets of the capital.
Many people living on the streets have not had any medical care for years, and are in need of treatment, but are wary, afraid to ask for help, or don't know where to turn for help. Many of them don't even feel their own bodies any more, and let situations get worse that could easily have been brought under control with care. Finally, unfortunately, most people living rough often have more than one illness and are therefore particularly vulnerable.
This service goes beyond simple nursing care, such as treating a wound. The main aim is to win the confidence of people living on the streets, to raise their awareness of the various health and hygiene issues that concern them, to encourage them to pay attention to the signs that their bodies are sending them, to gradually restore their confidence in the health system and, if they so wish, to support them in their efforts to seek treatment. The team works with a whole network of associations, social workers, doctors and other health professionals. Access to healthcare for homeless people is often fraught with difficulties: some no longer have social security cover, others have never had it, some homeless people are afraid of finding themselves in a crowded waiting room, some professionals are afraid that homeless people will drive away their other clientele, and so on. Our team's mission is to create the right conditions for homeless people to be able to seek medical treatment in complete peace of mind, so that they can regain confidence in the medical system and want to continue their medical treatment.
