Shelters for victims of human trafficking

HUT - Hëllef um Terrain runs two shelters for victims of human trafficking: La Villa and L'Etape.

This stationary service forms part of a national initiative to combat human trafficking: InfoTraite.

This initiative coordinates the assistance and care provided to victims of human trafficking, regardless of their origin, background, age or nationality.

Under the umbrella of the Ministry for Gender Equality and Diversity, this initiative brings together Hut - Hëllef um Terrain, a service run by Femmes en détresse, and a service run by the Fondation Porte Ouverte.

This initiative works closely with the police’s victim protection service.

The two facilities, La Villa and L'Etape, mainly take in men who are victims of human trafficking. This is an open-access emergency shelter, for a variable duration depending on the specific needs and status of the person being cared for. To ensure the safety of residents, the addresses remain confidential.

On a day-to-day basis, residents are offered advice and assistance by social workers in their various administrative and legal procedures. They receive support with their psychosocial issues and are referred to appropriate services as needed. Finally, they are supported and guided towards an autonomous life. Respect within the community, support in learning one of the country’s languages and job-seeking are all part of the journey towards this autonomy.
